What this department covers
Cardiology deals with the heart and the blood vessels that serve it. A cardiologist diagnoses and manages conditions affecting how the heart beats, how well it pumps, and how freely blood moves through the coronary arteries.

Tests used
An ECG records the heart’s electrical activity and takes a few minutes. An echocardiogram uses sound waves to show the heart moving and the valves opening and closing. A treadmill test, or TMT, records the heart under exertion. A Holter monitor is worn for a day or more to catch rhythm problems that a short ECG would miss. Coronary angiography uses a thin tube passed to the heart and a dye visible on X-ray to show where an artery is narrowed.
When to see a cardiologist
Chest pain or tightness, breathlessness that is new or getting worse, a racing or skipping heartbeat, fainting, or swelling in the legs. Chest pain that is severe, or comes with sweating, nausea or pain spreading to the arm or jaw, is an emergency. Call the emergency number rather than booking an appointment.
Interventional cardiology
Confirmed 7 September 2026: the hospital has a working cathlab and performs both coronary angiography and angioplasty on site. The July 2025 ECHS recommendation agrees, listing cardiology as invasive and non-invasive. The NABH entry-level certificate’s “non-interventional” line predates this and should not be quoted.
Angiography finds the narrowing. Angioplasty opens it, usually with a stent, in the same lab and often in the same visit.
